Man shoots change machine

Man shoots change machine, Authorities in Winter Haven, Fla., are searching for a man they say shot a laundromat change machine in an attempt to steal money from it . Surveillance cameras show the man shooting at the machine several times and then taking off when he wasn't able to get any money

Detectives said a would-be thief tried to break into a laundromat change machine by firing a gun at it several times.

According to reports, the man walked into the Busy Bubbles laundromat in Winter Haven at 9 p.m. on Jan. 4, pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the change machine and fired several times.

However, despite the suspect's best efforts, the change machine would not yield. The man then fled on foot.

The attempted theft was discovered after the business manager saw the damaged machine, then reviewed the surveillance video.

The suspect is described as a black man who stands 5-feet-11 and weighs about 185 pounds. He was wearing a gray hoodie and dark baggy pants.
In 1989 I was young and broke in Denton, TX. I took my last 5 bucks and a load of laundry to a laundromat. I sat there reading a magazine for awhile, and then realized the damn' machine was still filling with water. Filling and draining, filling and draining. No washing. No spin cycle, just unabated soggifying. My clothes were soaked in soap and therefore unsuitable for drying. So I did what any broke 20-something would do: I kicked the change machine. Hard. Right below the little green light. The change machine spat out about $15 in quarters, part of which which I spent at a laundromat down the street. The rest went to tacos and beer.
